Step-by-step tutorial

1. Wrap the yarn around the crochet hook as shown in the picture (the video demonstrates two methods).

2. Yarn over(yo)

3. Follow the red arrow, pull the loop of step 2 through the loop of step 1.

Tighten the knot, the slip knot start is complete.

The first chain stitch (ch st) is now complete.

Repeat the previous step four more times, now there're 5 ch sts. A loop on the hook does not count as a st.
