How to make herbal shampoo bar
Table of contents
What are shampoo bars?
Shampoo bars are a type of solid shampoo made from synthetic surfactants, unlike shampoo soaps which are made from surfactants produced by saponifying alkali and oil. What are the advantages of shampoo bars?
Waste reduction and environmental protection
Compared to liquid shampoo, solid shampoo bars are smaller in volume, saving the need for many bottles and jars. The ingredients are natural and simple, and the production method is simple.
The recipe I use contains a lot of natural ingredients and is very easy to make. It doesn't require heating; you can simply mix it together.Easy to use
It's more convenient to use than shampoo soaps, as you don't need to balance the pH or rinse off the soap residue that causes tangles after washing your hair.
Homemade herbal shampoo bars
I used a very simple method: just mix the required materials at room temperature and shape them, and you're done.
Ingredients
A total of 100g can be made into two shampoo bars, each weighing 50g.Powder
- 50g SCI
- 24g corn starch
- 4g of plant powder
- 2g of citric acid
Oil phase
- 10g of vegetable oil
- 1g of essential oil
Aqueous phase
- 4g of hydrosol or water
- 2g organic Aloe Vera Gel
- 2g of vegetable glycerin
- 0.6-1g preservatives
Other preparations
- Extra cornstarch or water prepared to adjust the texture in the end.
Safety Precautions
Because inhaling SCI can cause respiratory discomfort, masks and glasses or goggles should be worn at all times during the preparation process. The preparation should be carried out in a well-ventilated place without direct wind blowing.
Instructions
- First, prepare the cornstarch and water for final texture adjustment.
- Put all the ingredients of the powder section into a bowl.
- Pour the oil phase in and mix it evenly with the powder.
- Add the aqueous phase and mix thoroughly.
- The goal is to form an easily-shaped, non-sticky, and non-greasy dough. Since different herbal powders may result in different textures, if it feels slightly dry, add a little water (just a few drops) to adjust the texture. If it feels slightly oily or slightly wet, add a little cornstarch to adjust the texture.
- Divide into two portions and shape by hand into a disc, or use any mold you have on hand.
- Let it sit for several hours until the shampoo bar dries and hardens before use.
How to use a shampoo bar
1. Moist
Wet your hair completely, and also wet the shampoo bar in your hands.2. Bubbling
Hold the shampoo bar directly on your hair and lather it until you have enough foam. Then put the shampoo bar back on the soap dish.3. Massage
Gently massage and cleanse your scalp with your finger pads (using your finger pads is gentler and won't damage your scalp).4. Rinse
Rinse off the foam with clean water.Other precautions
- If you have used a long-lasting styling product, you can repeat the cleaning process of steps 2-4, depending on the effectiveness of the first cleaning.
- Store used shampoo bars in a dry place to prevent them from softening.
- When a shampoo bar is almost used up, you can simply stick it onto a new shampoo bar and use it without any waste.
