Tea Tree

The tea tree, scientifically known as Melaleuca alternifolia, is a plant native to eastern Australia and belonging to the Myrtaceae family.

Tea trees are shrubs that grow in subtropical regions and can reach a height of 7 meters. They have papery, sheet-like bark and smooth, slender leaves that are only about 1 mm wide and 1-3 cm long, tapering to a point at the tip. They are relatively easy to cultivate but require a large amount of water.

Functions and Traditional Applications of Tea Tree Oil

The tea tree products commonly found on the market are extracts made from tea trees, and usually do not refer to the tea that is commonly consumed (Camellia sinensis).
Tea tree oil has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity in in-vitro experiments. In addition, it also has antiviral and antifungal properties. Therefore, it has traditionally been used in the fields of cleaning and disinfection. Due to its gentle nature on the skin, it is also used on small superficial wounds, insect bites, acne and other skin problems. However, it should be noted that tea tree oil that has been stored for too long or has been oxidized may cause skin sensitivity and discomfort.
Using diffusers or steam to inhale tea tree oil is a traditional method used to soothe a cold.
In addition to the applications mentioned above, tea tree oil could also be used to make ointments, solid soaps, liquid soaps, and more.
Tea tree oil is one of the most practical essential oils in daily life.

Application of tea tree hydrosol

Tea tree hydrosol is obtained during the distillation of tea trees. It is an aqueous distillate located below the essential oil. As a skincare ingredient, it is believed to have oil-controlling, astringent, and revitalizing functions.
Besides being used as an ingredient in skincare products, tea tree hydrosol is also suitable for use in a diffuser due to its rich aroma. Simply add a few spoonfuls of hydrosol to the diffuser or add it to your bath water to enjoy a tea tree hydrosol bath.
